Meet the Girl Scout
Zainab Anwar completed her Gold Award project during her senior year of high school and will be attending Barnard College of Columbia University in the fall. A dedicated Girl Scout for over eight years, she is proud to have culminated her scouting journey with this project. Outside of her academic and community work, Zainab enjoys reading, cooking and baking, playing video games, and exploring various aspects of popular culture and media.
Zainab's Story
Zainab pursued the Girl Scout Gold Award because of the profound influence Girl Scouts had on her life and her commitment to giving back to her community in a meaningful way. As a South Asian Muslim girl, her identity has always played a significant role in shaping her perspective, and she wanted her project to offer children the opportunity to explore and celebrate both the major and minor aspects of their own identities. She chose to center her project around poetry and identity, recognizing the deep connection between the two. Poetry, as an expressive art form, allows individuals to share their thoughts and experiences freely—just as identity is something that should be embraced and expressed without hesitation.
